After a long time of not seeing each other we met for a coffee. At the table, and for a second, we stared at each other and I could not repress a silent laugh, an insulting smile, that breathed out and asserted itself to me. She asked “What is it?”
“Oh, it’s nothing”
The insult had obviously permeated, so she insisted.
“You know how people say when you give a bit of yourself to someone else a part of you dies?”
She nodded.
“It’s true, there is this fragment of your memory that becomes a heavy rotten corpse that lingers.” I continued, this time looking at her, in peace “Looking at you I feel the drag of that corpse, but the pain of all my invested love, somehow, became a black hole where every memory of you was sucked into. There is no pain, just a void, that makes me feel utterly indifferent to your presence now.”
We both sipped our hot coffees.
